What on earth has happened to football in Sunderland. Always a hotbed of football locally, once great successful clubs, great crowds, an ability to "keep" local players and attract top players from elsewhere.
Both RCA and West end hammered tonight, Farringdon in the Wearside prem seemingly struggling, how can there be so much miss-management in a town where people love their football.

West end carrying on from where they left off last season paying mad money. Clearly getting spunked. RCA got cleaned out by mercenaries then the money got pulled or what was left of it. Farra lads left to go play For Annfield Plain for 30 quid a week.

I've always wondered that, you'd think for such a big catchment area and football mad area that a second club could exist at least in the NPL. Mind you, look at Newcastle (I know the NPL have Heaton Stan now). The two Ryhope's always struggled to get bodies through the gate I think. I suppose South Shields are the dominant club and basically hoover up parts of both Tyneside and Wearside.
West End will never get a good gate at that place, no offense to them. I think they know that too.

Mr millionaire banging on your door certainly helps.

Surely someone has to get hold of at least one of these clubs and get some decent management in with decent contacts who can bring back a good standard of non league football in the town.

Ryhope CW is probably the only ground I ever got lost trying to find. From what I recall the place had no signage and been behind a large cricket complex (which also never seemed to be busy) and sandwiched between houses didn't help. I don't even think the place had actual parking, you just had to park near the alleys of those bungalows.
The stand had more broken seats than functional ones. No food and drink either on my last visit. There could have been no more than 80 people in the entire ground.
I saw some photos of the place on Facebook recently and it's really looking rough now. Looks like some kind of bush is growing into one of the covered sections by the dugouts. This sounds harsh but if a matchday experience is this poor then punters just won't come.

Reminds me of one time I went to RCA with Ashington. Just as the game was about to kick off a group of 3 elderly Tow Law fans stood next to me Why isn't so and so playing they asked me. Who? The lad who's just signed from Brandon. I've never heard of them. At that point they realised they were at the wrong ground, they were supposed to be at RCW. They moved quick for older guys. I saw them at the gate, presumably trying to get a refund and directions to the right ground

One of the reasons they folded probably the main was lack of committee. Nobody to do the said food and drink. They were paying some decent wedge out for a Division 1 club that didn't get many through the gate.

Expected a good start to the season from Sunderland West End. Some good quality signings and what looks like plenty positive work off the field. However, is this the same management team who pretty much had them relegated a few seasons back?
Boldon CA fan

Very true, a select few ground hoppers and purists might like these ram shackle stadiums but hardly likely to pull new long term fans in.ive known folk who are not even massive footie fans go to games if stadiums decent and its got a good club house, its like a day out, it was like that for me when i went to belper town as a neutral, would sure be back and if i lived there would go often, more like a social event such a tidy stadium and massive club house.

The best part of grass roots is not just the football on offer visiting the different grounds is a big part aswel. Cages as I call them are awful replacements . They have a place for winter training etc . They will never be popular. 100% agree with you , if older grounds arekept neat and tidy then it’s an excellent all round day out .

Belpers is a old stadium but it looks like its been re-built bit by bit like numerous others over the years along with numerous others, even a new build can have character. These cages are modern and function i guess but nothing worse than a old ground going to rack n ruin with paint all peeling off, rotten steelwork etc. i recall jarrow roofings ground now that was ramshackle
