The best part of grass roots is not just the football on offer visiting the different grounds is a big part aswel. Cages as I call them are awful replacements . They have a place for winter training etc . They will never be popular. 100% agree with you , if older grounds arekept neat and tidy then it’s an excellent all round day out . Belpers is a old stadium but it looks like its been re-built bit by bit like numerous others over the years along with numerous others, even a new build can have character. These cages are modern and function i guess but nothing worse than a old ground going to rack n ruin with paint all peeling off, rotten steelwork etc. i recall jarrow roofings ground now that was ramshackle There are a lot of clubs who don’t keep on top of the House keeping for want of a better phrase. Agree about Jarrow Roofing , awful ground. Esh and West allotment were awful last time I was there .

Its still used by over 40s and a Sunday morning side. It doesn't get any maintenance as the establishment who it comes under are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. It's basically a shit tip.

I'd condemn it. Place is an absolute shit tip.

Hearing whispers SWE management team are no more? Surprised not. I'm sure I predicted they wouldn't last long. Do they ever last long at any club they go to. Decent budget which I also said is getting spunked every week. Proofs in the pudding.

Hearing whispers SWE management team are no more? Your classic case of talking a good game but never delivering. If you listened to their pre/post match interviews you'd think they were going to win the league comfortably.

Reminds me of one time I went to RCA with Ashington. Just as the game was about to kick off a group of 3 elderly Tow Law fans stood next to me Why isn't so and so playing they asked me. Who? The lad who's just signed from Brandon. I've never heard of them. At that point they realised they were at the wrong ground, they were supposed to be at RCW. They moved quick for older guys. I saw them at the gate, presumably trying to get a refund and directions to the right ground This is not an uncommon occurrence, even the majority of Ryhope folk would have difficulty in giving directions as most don't know the grounds exist, although most know where the cricket field is. I have been involved with Wearside and Northern Leagues on and off since 1965. In my experience Sunderland citizens are apathetic towards nonleague football and it will be difficult to change that as the preconception is that it is just rubbish. When Ryhope boasted two clubs in the Northern League, the majority of committee members were from outside the village, some from as far away as Washington and Chester le Street and one who actually lived in Greater London who could never attend games. From memory, I think I once counted just four Ryhopians between the committees of both clubs.

He moved south many years ago but stayed on as a committee member and is still actively raising funds, not sure how successfully.
