I thought the same when they played Seaham a few weeks ago. Attendance 205, must have counted everyone twice! . Shildon are notorious for skimming the figure off crowds. Anywhere from 280 to 400 for a league game. And as soon as its the fa cup or vase boooom nobody turns up .I wonder why ? Answers on a post card!! I have been to games at Consett, Redcar Athletic and Shildon over the last 5 years or so and these 3 clubs are notorious for inflating their league attendance figures. You could easily say by as high as 25 to 30% on top of how how many are actually innthe ground. Not sure if it is to appease sponsors ect? Then cup games, low and behold, much more accurate figures are announced.

Guisborough almost certainly lie about theirs, and I can prove it. I attended their FA Cup game against Tadcaster Albion in 2020, bare in mind this was the pandemic, so the attendance was capped at 300. There was certainly not 300 inside, but what makes me know it was almost certainly fake is that a groundhopper on Twitter claimed he only arrived at the ground in the 45th minute and paid full price.
So either a decent amount of people came in later (very unlikely) or this groundhopper was entree 300 (also unlikely) or more likely, Guisborough just rounded it up to 300.

Is it not that some clubs put down all season ticket sales whether they turn up or not. I know redcar do as they said they had to because they were told they had to. Every junior player and junior coach at Birtley get a club membership free as they pay enough in monthly subscriptions to our junior section. Imagine in the current climate having to pay £25-00 a month for each kid then paying to watch the senior game on a Saturday. Some families have 2/3 kids and simply can’t afford to pay so much. We have over 500 kids with membership cards who get in free but still only count those who actually turn up. Same with our season ticket holders , if they don’t turn up they don’t get counted.

The Kendal Town v Guisborough Town FA Cup tie on Saturday was declared as 342. The replay at Guisborough on Wednesday's attendance was, surprise, surprise, 342

Even adding season ticket holders that aint there, some of these figures still seem inflated. Cant see there been a hoard of season ticket holders who miss a few games a season

At Guisborough Town, like Birtley, season ticket holders are included in the attendance if they actually attend the game.

Wish I had a fiver for everytime this crops up about wether season ticket holders are classed at being at a home game even if there at magaluf at the time. The attendance is those people believe it or not attending the game.

Having 500 junior players who are all given a members card get in free to watch our Senior games including our Ladies team was a great decision by our committee . They are counted only if they attend . A lot don't come alone they fetch mam or dad or both. Food and bar takings go up so makes sense. U16 free with paying adult which I think is the norm with most clubs

The other end of the scale, Premier League clubs declare tickets sold for the game rather than the number of people that actually attended. The Sports Ground Safety Authority define that clubs are required by law to know the number of people attending each game for safety reasons, to ensure relevant authorities are prepared, the police can and have stopped games from going ahead in advance of the fixture.
Arsenal v Watford Thursday March 11th 2018, declared attendance of 59,131, actually just under 45,000.
Clubs in the Northern League that include season ticket holders whether they attend a game or not are some what justified incorporating into the match attendance. They have indeed sold a ticket for that supporter for every league game that season.
