Both sets of players and management wanted the game to go ahead tonight at North Shields,v Whickham, but the ref decided the pitch was unplayable 50 mins before kick off. Ridiculous ! In that case, the referee should be held accountable. Surely some kind of disclaimer can be signed between both teams which in a case like this overules the refs decision. Complete waste of time effort and resource of everyone. This kind of thing does no favours for anyone and will make people wonder why even bother. Accountable for what? Ensuring the safety of both sets of players?

The accountability should be taken away from the referee in situations like this where all other parties are happy to play the game!

If Shields deemed the pitch playable surely they would have been happy to share the images online. Personally think looking back at the issues they’ve had over the last two months they’ve tried to get the fixture played for gate revenue. Why not let the local official check the pitch earlier in the day rather than it having to come to that. If they had applied that then this wouldn’t even be a conversation

The referee has the final say to state whether they feel the playing surface is playable, bearing in mind any weather forecasts and weather at the time of inspection.
The club can arrange a pitch inspection with a local referee earlier in the said day, whom can postpone the game or state ok to play but again then the match referee has their own decision to make whether playable or not.
Grounds such as controlled by Parish Council's for example can postpone games for unfit playing surfaces, a local referee would normally endorse the concerns raised, taking it away from the home club in this case.

My point is based on both teams and both sets of managers being happy with the conditions.
