Penrith AFC 1-0 Crook Town.
Well if someone told me this game would generate a goal in it even by the 80th minute I still wouldn't have believed them. Active enough, but some of the worst finishing I've ever seen at any level, the game must have had at least 30 throw ins between both teams and no one could seemingly capitalize on any setpiece either. As the second half wore on it seemed only one team was going to take chances (Penrith) and they got they due reward in the 86th minute with a tap in after Crook keeper hastily parried a strong penrith shot. Very poor match.

Very poor match. Tbf, I've seen most of the front runners in Div 1 this season, and none of them have impressed me. The overall standard and quality of football in the NL seems way off what it was a few years ago. A natural consequence of automatic promotion and the best sides moving on maybe.

My thoughts aswell pal. There's still plenty money kicking about in the Northern league just the players who justified it a couple of year back are now in the leagues above. There's players nowhere near worthy 80 90 a 100 pound a game but there getting it. Been said before but this is why the Vase won't be coming to the Northern league again anytime soon.

Some clubs in NL paying way more than that . I’ve heard £3-400 in some cases. Crazy money .

Should be nailed on for promotion paying what they do. Each to there own. There's teams in the wearside league paying out well supposed to be but that's a different story. There's a lad who I know plays for a team in the WL who share there name with a famous ground. He's SUPPOSED to be on money but when I ask him if he's been paid yet no is the reply. Promised so much a game but never seen a penny of it. Disgusting.

Problems start when those who have put the money up decide it’s not getting the club where they themselves want to be and start pulling the plug on the money . We all know what happens next. I’m pleased we live within our means and we always will do. Our current commitee will never put the club in a position that puts the club at risk.

Couldn't agree more. The Stockton, Hebburn, Ashington, Consett and Aycliffe teams of yesteryear would have put double figures past both teams. Heck knows what cricket scores the old Spennymoor and South Shields would be getting if they were still in this league. I can't comment on wages, but honestly for the first time watching NL football I was beginning to question had I got £7 worth of entertainment. The NL certainly seem to be behind the NCEL and NWCL now.

Mind at least now teams paying silly money will work up the pyramid

It will even out eventually as teams get relegated back to the league Certainly there'll be a time where the best teams in the Northern League will struggle to compete at NPL level and get relegated. I'm not sure I'd call it evening out however. It's more like the natural strength of the pyramid in the area will have been achieved.
