Moors have pledged to donate £2 from every ticket sold on the gate for our home fixture against Southport on Tuesday night to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The gesture is a show of solidarity with our friends at Southport and all those affected by the tragic events that unfolded in the town at the end of last month. Bebe King (6), Elsie Dot Stancombe (7) and Alice da Silva Aguiar (9) were killed, and ten others were seriously injured in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift themed holiday club on 29th July. Amidst an outpouring of grief and emotion, numerous donations were made to various causes in order to support those directly affected by the attacks and the local community. “Like everyone across the country, we were absolutely appalled to hear of the horrific events that took place in Southport,” explained Moors’ Managing Director, Ian Geldard. “It’s difficult to imagine what everyone in the local community must be going through at the moment, let alone the families directly affected by the tragedy. “We reached out to our friends at Southport Football Club to offer our support and to find out how best we could do something around our fixture at The Brewery Field. “Therefore, we’re pleased to be able to donate £2 from every ticket sold on the night to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital which provided extraordinary care for those caught up in the attack. “We’ll also be holding a collection on the night of the game so that fans can make further donations if they so wish to help us show solidarity with Southport.” Donations from sales will come from all supporters who buy online in advance or who pay direct on the turnstiles prior to the fixture on Tuesday 20th August (7.45pm kick-off). We’re proud to confirm that the Club has been able to make a donation in excess of £2,000 to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital following Tuesday’s game against Southport. Following the tragic events that took place less than a mile from Southport’s home ground at the end of last month there has been an outpouring of emotion from all corners of the country. As a result, we wanted to do something to show our support and solidarity with our friends at Southport Football Club when they visited The Brewery Field in midweek. It was arranged that £2 from every ticket sold for the fixture would be donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where those caught up in the horrendous attack were provided with extraordinary levels of care. In total, £1,300 was raised from ticket sales, a bucket collection and other kind donations on the night and now Moors Chairman Brad Groves has personally boosted that to £2,000. We also agreed to donate proceeds from the half time draw organised by Spennymoor Town Fans Group to the cause, meaning our total donation is £2,260. “I would like to thank everyone who helped us raise money for such a worthy cause,” said the Club’s Managing Director, Ian Geldard. “Southport are at the heart of their local community and it’s difficult to imagine what the people there have been going through over the last few weeks – but we knew we had to do something to show our support. “The generosity we saw didn’t surprise me. Football clubs like Spennymoor and Southport are showing how we have the ability to bring people together in a special way even in the most tragic of circumstances.” Article Here - spennymoortownfc.co.uk/2024/08/22/moors-donate-over-2000-to-alder-hey/
