Tuesday Night's Results Are In

Disappointing result for the Colliers last night.

The game kicked off at pace with both teams playing fast flowing football. Ashington took the lead towards the end of the first half which I missed because I needed to go to the loo, but it was scored by Paddy Almond who had a storming game at the back. Ashington went in deservedly ahead and maybe should've been further ahead.

Second half and things turned very quickly. Ashington played the ball forward and the Bishops player hoofed the ball clear, only for it to hit the post and deflect over the line. Ratboy is off course already claiming it's the best goal ever on Facebook, but to be honest it was a fluke.

A minute or two later Bishops won a corner and they took the lead when the player lost his man and headed it in. Ashington pressed for an equaliser but Bishops defended well and were content to try and hit us on the break. 

All in all a draw was probably the right result, but it wasn't to be. Round 2 on Saturday.

One other thing, I want to give credit to Bishops for. Having taken the lead there were none of the antics that blight this league. No rolling around with fake injuries or time wasting which was refreshing to see. All credit to them for that.

Can't argue a draw was probably thr fair result on balance but Bishops first goal looked a beauty. Not sure if you are on the wind up there.

Stockton Town 3 - Guiseley 1

Ruthless and skillful from Stockton against a lackluster Guiseley side that seemed to be made up of talented individuals (Jake Lawlor, Lebrun Mbeka, John Lufudu, Joe Cracknell, Adriano Moke and Jordan Thewlis all playing at least one division above last season to my knowledge, many of which played for Darlington and Spennymoor) but not working as a team, which is exactly what Guiseley looked like when I saw them two seasons ago. Star man was Michael Sweet, I remember him at Shildon and he looked good then and he's certainly NPL level now, ironic since Blyth Spartans were his old club and they released him). Looks like Stockton will settle well in this league if the first two games are anything to go by. Guiseley's goal was a last minute consolation after Stockton had been reduced to ten.

One my good friends was at the, Tymon meant it and has done it before, fluke no, lucky possibly.

Although he did mention at full time a very bitter Ashington Fan saying "this famous Bishop Auckland Support, saying only 7 turned up" from my mates count he would say there atleast 30 Bishop fans dotted around the ground, which for a Tuesday night is very good support
