It's not been easy supporting Scunthorpe United in recent years. Numerous off-the-field issues and multiple relegations have seen a painful descent from EFL football to playing in the National League North this coming season. Just 12 years ago, the Northern Lincolnshire-based side found themselves near the top of the football pyramid, competing in the Championship. In 2017 and 2018, the Iron came close to a lucrative return but twice lost out in the League One play-offs. A downward spiral began with subsequent relegations, prompting owner Peter Swann to actively seek a buyer for the struggling club which was losing millions each season. In 2021, Swann transferred ownership of the Glanford Park ground to his company Coolsilk in exchange for £11m worth of loans that he had put into the club. Things took a turn for the worse this January when an unpaid tax bill saw HMRC issue the club with a winding-up petition. Fortunately, in the same month David Hilton, a Nottingham businessman, arrived as the new owner, offering renewed hope for a brighter future as the crowds returned and positivity grew. However, this soon ignited a contentious ‘civil war’ between the former and current owner, primarily revolving around the agreed-upon deal for the club’s land and ground. As a result, the club’s future at Glanford Park has become uncertain, marked by an upcoming court case and allegations of the club 'trespassing' on the premises. Firstly I would like to start by thanking so many of you for the support I have received over the last week. It has helped me considerably and contributed to me making some very difficult decisions. I came into the club in January this year, the club was carrying in excess of £2m debt, was bottom of the National League and had a playing squad that either due to ability, attitude or a combination of both thoroughly deserved to be there. Contrary to speculation and belief, there were no other parties at the table towards the end of January with the club due in court within a few weeks to be formally wound up by the HMRC. People have been quite right to point out that I only paid £3 for the shares in the club, yet despite such a low amount nobody was prepared to take on the club and save it from extinction, this tells its own story. Scunthorpe United has been put up for sale by its new owner. Chairman David Hilton, who bought the club in January, said in a statement it was now being "made available to purchase to the right people". Mr Hilton said the National League North side had a "significant amount of debt and the club loses significant amounts of money each and every month". He added there were also "ongoing legal battles that are required to tidy this club up costing thousands each month". The Iron chairman also revealed there was a winding-up petition due to be issued by HMRC, but urged supporters "do not be concerned". "I know that is hard but I will pay the petitions in full and continue to work through the club's remaining debt," he said. "My offer to sell the club will remain in place indefinitely, and we will see what the future holds. More Here - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-66866035

Fans of a crisis-hit non-league football club have been banned from matches for criticising the management. Several Scunthorpe United supporters have been ordered not to enter the Glandford Park stadium after speaking out online. Banning orders are normally issued to fans for abusive or violent behaviour. But Scunthorpe owner David Hilton has sparked a row about freedom of speech after apparently taking issue with critics. In a message to affected fans, the club wrote: "Good morning, the club would like to inform you of a banning order being placed on you with immediate effect. Kind regards, Scunthorpe United Football Club." Among those to be banned was Matt Ellis, a lifelong fan who runs The Iron Bru podcast. He said: “Normally you see people being banned for things like pitch infringements or altercations outside the ground. "Of course, for honest fans like myself and my fellow fans who’ve been banned, it’s a little bit of a shock, really, because this is not the reason we’ve been banned." He said issuing bans in an attempt to silence dissent created "a void between the fans and the club". "You need as many fans as you can get," he said. "I feel a little bit aggrieved.” More Here - www.itv.com/news/calendar/2023-09-27/fans-banned-from-stadium-for-criticising-clubs-owners

No social media back then but a lad that ran the message board was banned from games as well as a fanzie editor who were hardly spreading lies. The truth hurts as the saying goes. Shows what a nasty piece of work scunthorpes owner is

Oh boy... The club Owner and Chairman has recently notified the Board of Directors of his decision to withdraw his funding from the club moving forward. He has also notified them that he feels his position at the club is untenable, and is actively seeking a way out. Based on this information, both Ian Dawson and Tahina Akther have decided to resign from their positions with immediate affect. Owner David Hilton has withdrawn funding for Scunthorpe United, who will play games away from Glanford Park because of a land dispute. Having already put the club up for sale, a statement said Hilton feels his position is "untenable", and is "actively seeking a way out". The National League North club will leave Glanford Park after hosting Brackley on 7 October. They will then play home games 16 miles away at Gainsborough Trinity. Glanford Park remains the property of former owner Peter Swann through land owners Coolsilk, while a trial is currently scheduled for January which will look at the validity of a sub-tenancy to use the venue. First game at Gainsborough is against Spennymoor on October 24th if the club are still operating at that time. Shocking the chancers attracted to these clubs. The game has needed an asset lock or other regulation for years. Can’t see them finishing the season with the numerous ongoing legal cases and no home but on the other hand a smaller ground and adversity bringing everyone together might be a positive if the legal fees can be settled.

Hold On - Gainsborough Trinity have come out with a statement now Gainsborough Trinity FC are aware of a statement issued today by Scunthorpe United. This statement was issued without the knowledge or consent of Gainsborough Trinity. Whilst the club has always been clear that any requests from Scunthorpe United to play fixtures at the KAL Group Stadium would be considered, this would always have to be done by due process which would involve both clubs and the ground owner. The local SAG (Safety Advisory Group), Police and local authority would also need to issue the appropriate safety certificates, which are not currently in place. www.gainsboroughtrinity.com/news/team-news/1183-club-statement-scunthorpe-united-groundshare

Clearly a chancer who’s had Scunthorpe. I mean why take them on in the first place if the ground was not included in the sale
